You can now play Otiya online, any time, with anyone

Otiya started as a way to play together in one room: one shared screen, everyone answering on their own phone. People loved that. Then they asked the obvious question. What about the days when we are not in the same room?

So now you can play online. No host, no code, no waiting for someone to start the game. Open otiya.xyz/play and you are in.

The Daily challenge

Every day there is a fresh challenge, and everybody gets the same one. That is the fun of it: you can compare scores with your sister in Lagos, your colleague in Leeds and your friend in Toronto, because you all faced exactly the same questions.

• Ten questions, ten seconds each. Quick enough for a tea break.
• Faster right answers score more. Knowing it is good. Knowing it fast is better.
• A new mix every day. From the same spread of topics for everyone.

When you finish, you see how you did worldwide and in your country, and you can share your score with one tap to WhatsApp and the rest.

The Sunday Showdown

Once a week there is a bigger moment: the Sunday Showdown, a live game every Sunday at 7pm UK time. The time shows in your own time zone, so wherever you are, you know when to turn up. Everyone plays at once, and the leaderboard moves as the answers come in.

Challenge a friend

Think you can beat someone? Send them a challenge link. They play the same questions you did and you both see who came out on top. The link works even if they have never used Otiya before.

You can also add friends by username. When a friend is online, tap Play and they get an invite. You both answer the same five questions at the same moment, then see who won.

Leagues for your team, your class group or your family

This is the one people get competitive about. Start a league, give it a name and share the link. Everyone who joins plays the Daily challenge as normal, and their score goes onto the league table by itself. No extra steps.

• Today, This week and All time. So there is a winner every day and a champion over the long run.
• Private or public. Keep it for your office, or make it public so anyone can find and join it.
• As many as you like. Join your work league, your family league and your old school league at the same time.
• The creator stays in charge. They can remove someone, and anyone can report a name that is not right.

Think of it like a fantasy football league, but for knowing things.

Play as a guest or with an account

You do not need an email to start. Pick a username, confirm you are 18 or older and play as a guest on that device. Other players only ever see your username, never your real name. If you want to play from your phone and your laptop, a free account keeps everything together.

Under 18? Otiya Kids is made for you, with learning games for ages 3 to 12 and no account at all.

Safe and fair

Playing online means playing with people you do not know, so we built it with care:

• Usernames only. No real names, no photos, no chat.
• Report and block. Open the menu next to any name to report it or block it. Blocked players cannot find you, add you or invite you. We review every report.
• A fair game. Scoring is checked on our servers, so everybody plays by the same rules.

Play online also works in French, Spanish and Portuguese, and the dates and times follow the language you pick.
